Gifted & Talented Programs
Extension Programs are a key focus area for the school's strategic direction and have been developed further across the school curriculum at staff Training & Development sessions. A brochure has been produced outlining the full range of extension and enrichment activities available at Bomaderry High School.
A range of extension and enrichment opportunities are provided particularly for Year 7 and Year 8 students.
4E class
Bomaderry High School has embarked upon an ambitious program to challenge and extend student learning through the creation of a new class for gifted and talented students within the junior school – Stage 4. The teaching and learning activities have a strong focus on problem solving, self directed investigation and collaborative processes involving interdisciplinary units across the four key learning areas – English, Mathematics, Science and History/Geography.
Students who wished to nominate for the 2008 class were required to sit an entrance examination especially developed and graded by an external consultant. Positions in the class were offered to the successful applicants who have since begun their education in this ‘hothouse' of learning. Any parents wishing to find out more information can contact the school.
Year 7 Science & English have used a software program 'Freemind' to develop concept maps on scientific and emotional responses to seeing their world. Year 7 Geography and Year 8 History extension programs involve selected students worked on e-learning programs.
In past years Year 7 Geography extension students took part in an Australian Government Quality Teaching ICT Pilot program learning how to build websites based on their research about rainforests - view student work sample here.
Take a look at a sample of what's happening using our intranet--- Year 7 Geography extension.
Year 7 Science extension students have also taken part in an online Optus Space Challenge. Four students gained enough credit to make it into the next round. Roller-coaster physics based on internet research have occupied them with practical activities culminating in a field trip to Luna Park to see the physics of twists, turns and g-forces in action.
Yr 7 History extension students are investigating the murder theories about King Tutankhamun - see the school's King Tut webquest.
